After what felt like hours, Katie stirs in her carrier, blinking up at them happily. She was hardly aware of the concept of ‘brother’ so she wouldn’t know the pain of losing Julian. Larry’s only goal now was to keep the rest of his family out of harms way for the forseeable future. He kisses the top of Ally’s head and lifts her chin to look at him. He simply stares into her bloodshot eyes, knowing full well that he probably looks the same. All they can do is hang on.
Matthew sobs into his uncle, clutching the man’s shirt as he shakes violently. His best friend. Gone. No longer would he have a brother to play games with. To laugh with. A brother to protect him. Hold his hand when he’s feeling scared or sad. He would never see Julian again.
Ally stares into her husbands eyes, though her sight kept blurring in and out due to tears, and gradual blood loss that she’d been for the most part preoccupied and completely distracted from. “I want them to pay for what they did to our boy.” She finally breathes out, her face crumpling as the full realization crashes down around her. Julian was dead. After all of their close calls, death had finally claimed it’s victim.
The gleeful squeal from Katie causes her heart to clench painfully in her chest, the blondes eyes closing tight as she lifts her head to press a kiss to Larry’s forehead, before standing from his lap to crouch down next to the little girls carrier. She didn’t speak, she couldn’t FAKE a smile, so instead she let Katie take ahold of her finger as she rests her cheek against the cushion of the chair next to her.
