Larry slumps into the chair and reaches for his wife. He finds her hand and holds onto it tightly, his hand trembling as he tries to keep from breaking down again. He rests his head in his free hand. He had no answer for her. There was no rhyme or reason to the things people did. People are malicious and sisnter and anyone who was willing to murder a little boy in cold blood deserved to be wiped clean from this earth.
Down the hallway, Matthew dried his eyes and looks up at his uncle. He says nothing and instead just hunkers closer to the man, his eyes sore and red. The doctors heart ached, not only because of the loss of his nephew but also his heart ached for his brother and sister in law, and for Matthew. From what he’d heard of the events, Ally, Julian, and Matthew had simply been in the wrong place at the wrong time and because of that an innocent child was in the crossfire. “I wish I could change everything.” Rob states, before looking back down at Matthew.
Her stream of questions came to an end shortly after, knowing that she’d get absolutely no answers; not from Larry, not from some mystical God in the heavens, no one had answers for her. The world was darker, every color paled in comparison to the light that Julian had brought to it. Not to say that Katie and Matthew didn’t do the same thing, but it was slightly different, they each brought a different light to the world; their own brand.
