Matthew burrows his face into Rob’s chest, fighting off the tears once again. He had to be strong for his family. They needed him. Matthew slides out of Rob’s lap and takes his hand, guiding him back down the hallway solemnly. Once he reaches his parents, he takes one look at their distraught features and feels another wave of tears sting his eyes.
Larry’s hand moves from Ally’s to her shoulder, grounding her, grounding himself. He would gladly take a thousand bullets if it meant his son was still with them. Still laughing and smiling and chattering endlessly about the things he loves. The pain in his chest is overwhelming and he finally doubles over in a gasping breath.
Ally brings a hand up to rest on top of Larrys, her breathing was shaky and weak. She didn’t know how to even begin pick up the pieces of their life, a life without Julian in it. Hell, she didn’t even want to think about what was to come or how they were going to cope. With a sigh, she lifts her head and looks around the ER, before her eyes find Matthew as she motions him forward as well. “Matty…” she says softly, squeezing Larry’s hand comfortingly in the process as she feels him doubling forward.
Rob had specifically instructed his staff to stay back until Larry and Ally were ready to see Julian, though he knew if it was him, he didn’t think he’d ever be ready for something like that. As he watches his family each reach their breaking points, he felt his own coming on and turns his gaze towards a window down the hall; his jaw clenched tight as he tries to regain his composure.
