He nods slowly and shifts from the seat, standing and setting Matthew in front of him. He kneels down to be at eye level with him and rests his hands on his shoulders. “Alright, buddy,” he begins. He didn’t want Matthew to see his brother.. not like this. “I need you to stay here. I’ll get someone to come sit with you, okay?”
Matthew nods and rubs his eyes, leaning forward and giving his dad a hug. He then turns and hugs Ally tightly bedore in the chair and looking down at his sister. Larry sighs and goes over to the desk, requesting for an nurse to go sit with his children. The lady nods sadly at him before heading over to where Matthew sat, greeting him with a smile. Larry goes to Ally and takes her hand, not prepared for the next part. Not prepared in the slightest.
Ally hugs the little boy just as tight, before looking down at Kaite, who was now sound asleep once more in her carrier. When she felt Larry take her head, the blondes heart squeezes tight, and she felt a wave of painful sorrow wash over her. She wasn’t ready to see her son lying on a gurney, lifeless and cold. She wasn’t ready to accept that they’d be going home without him, that they’d be planning his funeral. Gently, she squeezes Larry’s hand, as if to let him know that she was right there with him; just as unprepared as he was, before taking a few steps towards Robert.
The doctor, looked over at them, and he just knew. No words needed to be said, the look in the depths of their eyes was enough. Rob nods slowly, bringing a hand to rest onto Larry’s shoulder, as if to ground him a bit before clearing his throat. “I’ll take you guys…” he says, desperately wanting Larry and Ally to be around family, rather than a nurse that they didn’t know. With that having been said, he leads them past the double doors and towards the elevator that would take them down to the morgue.
