His tears spill over and he leans forward to kiss her forehead, desperately needing something to keep him from collapsing at the sheer unbridled pain radiating in his chest. “Okay.” He tucks her hair behind her ear and grips her tightly. Once the door is open to them, he steps into the room slowly, keeping his eyes trained straight ahead.
He refused to look at his son a moment before he had to. Larry keeps Ally tucked close to him, afraid that if she leaves him for even a moment that he will lose all semblance of control and collapse in an immovable heap on the floor. He looks back at her as they step forward. He can see the agony and despair in her features, his heart being stripped away.
Ally, who had always had an uncanny habit of needing to actually look around when she entered a room, let her eyes sweep the cold unwelcoming room. “This way…” Rob states, leaning them towards the back of the room to a table with a stark white sheet draped over it. In that instant, the room started closing in on her, and her pulse seemed to be in her ears as she grips onto Larry’s shirt tightly. Time. It had a funny way of slowing down during moments that were either super dramatic or excessively painful.
This was absolutely no different. Rob stood near the front of the table, his eyes unusually distanced, as if he was also trying to keep himself together even though it seemed almost impossible at that moment. Slowly, Rob lifted the sheet and moved it down to Julian’s shoulders, before stepping. “Oh god…” She breathes, taking a step forward. Julian’s lips had a blue hue to them, his once warm skin having long since gone stone cold. The blonde rests her forearms onto the edge of the table, reaching down to stroke her sons hair, a few tears sliding slowly along her cheeks as she remembers her sons short life.
“We were going to go to a Red Sox game next weekend. We didn’t tell you because we wanted it to be a surprise… Julian was so excited when I showed him the tickets.” Ally states, her voice shaking as she swallows back what appeared to be the tail end of her strength. “… I can’t fix this …” She then whispers, just to Julian as she brings her forehead to rest against his cheek.
