Her abrupt movement startled him and he furrows his brows as she hides her face in her hands. Larry’s arm tightens around her and he strokes her hair soothingly. “Shh.” He kisses the top of her head and continues playing with her hair, trying to remain calm in the face of their predicament. Less of a predicament than what could be described as utter hell.
“Do you want to go to bed?” He asks quietly, unable to soothe her in any way. How do you comfort a heartbroken mother? The blow was a definite and horrifying strike to their lives and it would take an immeasurable amount of strength to move on from it when the time came. But he was sure that Ally could do it. Although, everything in their past can’t even come close to how miserable they feel now.
Ally nods, though she was unsure, knowing that the end result would still be the same. They’d wake up with one less children, and as time went on they’d have to plan a funeral, then bury their eldest son. She had no clue how she was going to gain the strength to do that, when she couldn’t even believe that he was GONE. She kept hoping that it was all a horrible dream.
A few tears push past the tight seal she made with her eyes, and she turns her head to rest her forehead against Larry. “We can try to go to bed…” She says shakily, her body quivering from her effort to keep her emotions at bay. “Don’t know if I’m going to be able to sleep though.” And if she did find sleep, it wouldn’t be for very long. She was certain that the ache within her soul would keep waking her up.
