Matthew’s tears streak down his face and settle in Indy’s fur as he holds the lion close. He looks over at his mom as the boy tries his hardest to keep himself composed. Being only eight, it was difficult for him to hold himself together. His chin crinkles with effort and he buries his face in the dog’s fur to hide the pain on his features.

Larry releases a shaky breath and rubs Matthew on the back to provide him with some semblance of comfort. The boy lets out a quiet sob and under his solid hand, Larry can feel him trembling with suppressed effort to remain composed. Indy whimpers and turns his head to rest against Matthew, the two now effectively curled around each other.

Ally then leans down to press a kiss to the top of Matthew’s head, a tear slowly trickling down along her cheek. It was difficult for her when she knew that her children were hurting and there was absolutely nothing she could do to help. Especially in this case. “It’s okay, you don’t have to try to be strong.” She whispers to him, her hand moving to rest onto Indy’s fur.

“It’s okay…” She repeats, though in that sense, nothing was okay but she wanted Matthew to know that he didn’t have to hide his pain. It was completely understandable for him to fall apart, to be angry, and to all around be so not okay that he didn’t even know if the world would ever be the same again. Lord knows, she didn’t know, and she was devastated and angry.
