“Yeah, I haven’t even told Sam yet.” He rubs his face and sets his elbow against the desk, heaving a sigh. “Yeah, don’t go through this on your own, Rob.” He says quietly, not wanting his brother to deal with Julian’s death alone. He didn’t want him to blame himself for Julian’s death.
Matthew leans against his mom and hugs the lion closer to him as he hugs his mom. “When do we have to say goodbye to Julian?” He asks quietly, looking up at his mom with teary eyes. He was trying to stay composed for the sake of his family, but at some point, he knows he’ll lose it again.
Strain can be heard on the other end of the phone as Rob struggles with his own wave of emotions. “Yeah,” he croaks. Guilt had plagued him, not because it was actually his fault, but because of all the countless people he’d saved when there was almost ZERO chance; he couldn’t save his nephew. Though the blame actually rested in the hands of the men that had pulled the triggers without any regard to anyone else around them. “I’ll call you later, alright? I love you, Larry.” He says, before hanging up the phone with a sigh as his eyes flicks out towards the parking lot of the hospital.
“Soon.” Ally states, her voice strained as she continues to look down at Matthew. Given that she was more than certain that the phone call Larry had received was indeed Rob, she knew that now they’d start planning Julian’s funeral. And that in and of itself threatened to smother her whole. “… soon, baby.” She whispers, her chin quivering slightly.
