The woman looks at Ally with sincerity in her eyes. “I know this is difficult for you, and you don’t have to do anything. We will take care of everything. I just need a few more details and everything will be handled accordingly.” She looks between the grieving parents and opens a drawer on her side of the desk. She pulls out a piece of paper and snatches up an elegant pen to write with. “First, I just need to know which hospital he’s coming from, and whether you would like to bury or cremate him.”
Larry’s hand tightens around Ally’s as he nods slowly, steeling his nerves and looking across at the woman. He glances at Ally before answering. “Lennox hospital.” He answers quietly. The woman records his reply onto the paper and looks up at him once again. “I- I don’t know. I’ve never thought about having to put my son in the ground.”
“… I don’t know if cremation is the best idea, with Matthew …” she says, her voice shaking audibly as she glances slightly towards the woman, but other than that turns her eyes towards Larry. It was already difficult having to talk to Matthew about his brother having passed away, and they all had a lot of recovering to do. If they added having to explain that they’d cremated Julian, that would had one more difficult conversation.
Ally brings her free hand up to rub at her forehead, her body then shaking as she clears her throat. “I’m sorry, I… we’ve never, I mean… didn’t think we’d ever be in this situation, I… uh.” She stammers, her old inability to stream together sentences when she was stressed presenting itself rather apparently.
