He leans over her as she wrenches herself from his embrace, rubbing her back soothingly and making sure her hair is away from her face. Larry’s face contorts with unease as he tries his hardest to comfort his wife in any way he could. The truth was that he didn’t know how to comfort her when he couldn’t even comfort himself. How was he supposed to help a distraught mother?
“Ally..” he says softly, pulling her into another hug. “You have nothing to be sorry about. This is the hardest thing either of us have had to do. You don’t need to apologize for having a human reaction to your son dying.” He kisses the top of her head and strokes her hair gingerly. “Don’t apologize.” He repeats, his hands trembling as they hold onto her.
Her body felt weak, almost as if she’d fall apart at the seams at any moment, though she knew she couldn’t. She had to get through it. Not only because there wasn’t any way to stop time, but because Matthew and Larry needed her. Ally’s body trembles against her husbands, her eyes falling closed as she nods her head, simply to let him know that she’d acknowledged his words. “I’ll be okay…” She repeats softly.
Ally remains within his embrace for a minute or two, before pulling back slightly to wipe at her eyes, though the shakiness she felt was still rather prominent. It wasn’t likely that it’d go away for a while either. “We should… go back in there. I’ll be okay.” She states, before slowly pushing herself up off the ground as she lets out another slow stabilizing breaths. “It’s not going to get any easier, I just… it’s all too much, and I just… panicked, I guess.”
