The woman grimaces and notes their decision onto the clipboard she’d brought with her from her office, scribbling down something else and turning it toward them. “I just need one of you to sign, choose a date, and then we’ll be all set.” Larry grabs the clipboard from her and quickly jots down his signature. He sees the line that denotes the date of the funeral and he quickly scribbles down the date for a week from today.
He hands it back to her, his skin pale and his heart thundering in his chest. “Is that all?” The woman nods, beckoning them toward the door. She knew this was the last place any parent wanted to find themselves, and she didn’t blame them for wanting to make a hasty exit. She took little time in guiding Larry over towards their car. The blonde remains silent as she stops and wraps her arms around her husband, face buried against his chest. This was only one huge step, though she was certain it wouldn’t be the most difficult one, that would come in a week.
“… I love you …” She whispers, her eyes closing tight as she chews at the inside of her cheek, before pulling away to look up at him. “That place is creepy. I never want to have to come back here ever again.” Ally states, given the tone of her voice, one would think she was a half step away from falling apart again; though mostly what she felt now was exhaustion.
